A Walk in the Woods

There’s a greenway about 5 minutes from our house and while it’s only a mile or so worth of trail (one way) it’s more than enough for the kids.

Here Gwynn and Luke are walking hand in hand along the trail.

They like to look for moss and roots.

We love the Zoo!

The Birmingham Zoo has this really awesome playground that I can’t believe we’ve never played on before. The kids loved it and could have stayed for hours!

Next, Gwynn and Mommy rode the carousel…Gwynn used to be scared of it, but now it’s one of her favorite things to do!

We did another “first” at the zoo this time…went into the lorikeet exhibit. Mommy was ~~a little~~ terrified, so we didn’t stay too long.

We saw a pretty peacock on our way to the train…

While we were in the Zoo Café we saw cousin Kate’s picture hanging on the wall…that was pretty cool!

Outside fun

As the weather warms up the kids are spending most of their time outside. We have accumulated several playthings for the backyard but at the moment they kids enjoy the pool the most.

The kids had snack outside at their picnic table and could go back and forth. Which they did. A lot.

“Time to go eat a single raisin before heading back to the pool.”

Walking in our backyard doesn’t seem to be an option. It’s all full speed.

“This pool better not have chlorine. These highlights cost a fortune”

Gwynn decided to dip her hands in the water and then make handprints on the nearby fence.

For a while Gwynn used her bowl filled with water, but then she saw it was more fun to go back to the pool.

So many handprints.

They’d sprint all out back and forth to the fence. Fun times.

20 months (Luke)

At 20 months…

We haven’t gotten any reports of Luke biting anyone else at daycare – thankfully. He did bite Gwynn while we were in Tuscaloosa visiting Grandma and Pop though. They were fighting over a toy and I guess we know how that ended…
Obviously, Luke is familiar with “time out” now. If we’re at our house the usual time out spot is the bottom step, but if we are anywhere else a corner will do just fine. He understands that he is to sit/stand and not move until someone tells him to. We make him stay in time out for 45-60 seconds, then talk to him about what he did wrong.
Luke can finally jump off the ground. He can’t jump as high as Gwynn but he can definitely get airborne now.
He has learned how to climb out of his crib. This makes bedtime much more difficult as he’ll climb out if he’s awake when he goes into his crib. First he’ll toss everything out of the crib and then he’ll climb out. That combined with his fearlessness worries us since who knows what he could do in his room unattended at night.
Luke has also figured out how to get into Gwynn’s crib. He’ll go over to her big chair and use that to get into her crib. Gwynn can’t even do that!
Luke loves to sing! His favorite song is definitely “Let it go” from Frozen.
He loves to watch movies with his sister too. Their favorites are Frozen, Finding Nemo, and Monster’s Inc. right now. Luke usually lasts about 10 minutes before he’s bored with the movie.

Grace’s 1st Communion

On Sunday, we had the pleasure of attending Grace’s 1st Communion. She looked so pretty wearing her mother’s 1st Communion dress.

This was so, so sweet…they loved touching the statue of Jesus with the little children.

After Mass, we headed back to Grace’s house for dinner. Mommy and Aunt Jen couldn’t help themselves when they saw the keyboard. They played a pretty spot-on version of “Heart and Soul.”
