20 months (Luke)

At 20 months…

  • We haven’t gotten any reports of Luke biting anyone else at daycare – thankfully.  He did bite Gwynn while we were in Tuscaloosa visiting Grandma and Pop though.  They were fighting over a toy and I guess we know how that ended…
  • Obviously, Luke is familiar with “time out” now.  If we’re at our house the usual time out spot is the bottom step, but if we are anywhere else a corner will do just fine.  He understands that he is to sit/stand and not move until someone tells him to. We make him stay in time out for 45-60 seconds, then talk to him about what he did wrong.
  • Luke can finally jump off the ground. He can’t jump as high as Gwynn but he can definitely get airborne now.
  • He has learned how to climb out of his crib. This makes bedtime much more difficult as he’ll climb out if he’s awake when he goes into his crib. First he’ll toss everything out of the crib and then he’ll climb out. That combined with his fearlessness worries us since who knows what he could do in his room unattended at night.
  • Luke has also figured out how to get into Gwynn’s crib. He’ll go over to her big chair and use that to get into her crib. Gwynn can’t even do that!
  • Luke loves to sing!  His favorite song is definitely “Let it go” from Frozen.
  • He loves to watch movies with his sister too.  Their favorites are Frozen, Finding Nemo, and Monster’s Inc. right now. Luke usually lasts about 10 minutes before he’s bored with the movie.

19 months (Luke)

19 months

At 19 months…

  • Says, “School bus” and “big truck” when he sees them while riding around.
  • Luke has bitten some other children at daycare. We’re not very happy about him doing that.
  • He is still getting teeth, but now they’re molars and they seem to hurt.
  • Still uses a pacifier at night.
  • Luke tries to jump like his big sister but he doesn’t get off the ground yet. In fact, he’ll often fall back onto his butt after attempting a jump.
  • He is still a mama’s boy.
  • Luke doesn’t enjoy the big pool at the Y.
  • He loves playing at the park and running around in the backyard. Anything that’s outside he likes.
  • He’ll “smile” on command.
  • Luke has started saying “Mine!”
  • Luke is still easy to put down for bed but not so easy to keep asleep. Maybe half the time he’ll sleep until the morning, but oftentimes he’ll get restless and daddy will sleep next to him. He usually gets up at 5-5:30am ready to go. At Grandma and Pop’s house he keeps mommy and daddy from a good night’s sleep because he’ll groan whilst sleeping and he’s very loud.

18 months (Luke)

18 months

  • Our big boy is 18 months old!  Hard to believe. Here are his stats from his 18 month checkup:
    • Length: 34.75 inches (75th-90th percentile)
    • Weight: 27 pounds 4 ounces (90th percentile)
    • Head Circumference: 19.5 inches
  • He’s been watching his sister use the potty and he’s been telling us when he needs to go “poo-poo.” He’s gone twice when we’ve made it to the potty in time.
  • He loves to look for the moon and stars in the sky.
  • He also loves seeing airplanes and helicopters fly by.
  • He can repeat pretty much everything we say. Our favorites are “basketball” and “cock-a-doodle-doo.”
  • Daddy took Luke to the pool at the YMCA and he was not a fan. He wanted to hold on to Daddy and not let the water go above his knees.
  • Luke is still an early riser (5:30), but will take 2 long naps during the day and be ready for bed by 7:30pm.
  • Luke would be a fruitarian if we’d let him. He’s not particularly picky about what he eats, but if he’s got fruit on his plate he’ll eat it first. He also likes any kind of breakfast food.
  • Luke loves to play outside.
  • We’ve gotten rid of the pacifier except for nighttime. Once he gets up he’ll toss it in his crib along with his squirrel.

17 months (Luke)

17 months

  • Luke is such a happy little boy!  He is not a baby anymore…he loves to do everything Gwynn does.  He thinks he’s all grown up.
  • He knows a lot of body parts. He can point to his ears, eyes, mouth, teeth and ears. He can say “mouth” when you ask him what it is.
  • He got his first haircut this month and hated it!
  • He went to the dentist this month and hated it!
  • Luke is still very much a mama’s boy…loves for mommy to hold him.
  • Sleep is still not Luke’s favorite thing. Daddy usually ends up sleeping in his room with Luke in the bed next to him.
  • He is definitely a little monkey. He will mimic anything and everything that his big sister does and repeats most everything we say.
  • Luke is awesome at cleaning up toys…even better than his big sis!
  • We FaceTime with Grandma and Pop almost everyday and Luke now insists on holding the phone when we call them.
  • He’s still a super picky eater, but if we can get Gwynn to try something then Luke will usually try it too.
  • Luke hasn’t made it through mass in a long time.  We usually have to walk around with him about halfway through because he gets antsy or loud. We love going to OLV because they have a nursery right next to the cry room that we can put him in.  He really enjoys playing in there during mass.
  • We love our little man!  Can’t believe he’ll be a year and a half next month!!

16 months (Luke)

16 months

  • Luke is 16 months old!  Can’t believe it.  He’s such a sweet boy.
  • His new trick is making animal sounds.  He currently knows what a cat, dog, lion, tiger and bear say.
  • He is repeating everything we say.  I think he’s talking more than Gwynn did at this age.
  • Luke really plays well by himself when Gwynn is away.  If she’s home, he wants to be right next to her and have everything she has.  When she’s out of the house though, he is content playing with toys on his own.
  • His sleeping habits are about the same as last month. We’ve had a few mornings when he wants to sleep in, but those are rare.
  • He cut two more teeth this month, so I think we’re done with that for awhile.  He was a champ about it though…just lots of drooling and hands in his mouth.
  • He does not like to have socks and shoes on. His favorite thing to do it take them off in the car when we’re running late for church!
  • We turned his car seat around this month.  He was just getting too big for it to be facing backwards. He really enjoys being able to see everything now!
  • He uses a booster seat (with a buckle) at dinner time now and he’s still great at folding his hands to pray.  He’s even started trying to make the sign of the cross.
  • We read books to Luke every night before bed. Gwynn always loved this, but Luke not so much. He’ll usually sit in our lap for 3-4 pages of a book, then he’s up and on the move. Maybe he’ll learn to like books??
  • Luke’s starting to get into tv more.  He was never a big fan, but he goes crazy when he sees Mickey or Minnie on tv…he starts yelling “Minnie!!”
  • His favorite toys are cars, blocks and balls. He is awesome at throwing a ball too!

15 months

15 months

  • Luke is 15 months old now. It’s hard to remember what life was like before he was born.
  • He has gotten pickier about dinner. Not just what he eats (he still will eat most things), but how he eats it. He will scream and scream until the bowl or plate is on his tray so he can spoon it out himself.
  • Luke still really hates to brush his teeth…it’s a fight every morning and every night.
  • He is quite sweet with Gwynn. He’ll hand her toys, her monkey and Ellie or even some food. He’s very generous.
  • Luke’s vocabulary keeps getting bigger. He’s great at repeating things.
  • He loves to wave and say “bye bye.”
  • Luke loves to talk on the phone too…he’ll say “hi” and “bye bye” then hand the phone to us or Gwynn.
  • By far his cutest new trick is winking.  Although it’s more of a prolonged blink (with both eyes) than it is an actual wink!

14 months

14 months

  • Luke is 14 months old!  Time sure does fly…
  • He is still a great eater, but is a lot more picky than Gwynn ever was. He doesn’t like to eat spaghetti at all. He’s learned to throw his food when he doesn’t want it, and I don’t mean just drop it on the ground…he’ll throw it clear across the room!
  • He still doesn’t like to brush his teeth at all.  It’s become quite a chore to brush his teeth at night and in the morning. Usually we just end up using a washcloth with toothpaste on it.
  • Speaking of teeth, he now has 11!! He has 4 on the top, 4 on the bottom and 3 molars. He’s currently cutting a new molar and refuses Orajel. He’s a tough little guy.
  • Luke is repeating a lot of words (our favorite new word is “wa wa” for water).
  • He nods and shakes his head when we ask him questions which is so cute.  He’s about 90% right when he answers too…it’s quite impressive how much he understands at such a young age.
  • We are so blessed that Luke (and Gwynn) are so healthy.  We had to stay home with Luke one day because he wasn’t feeling too hot, but it only lasted for a day and he was much better.
  • Luke loves to climb into things now (laundry basket, toy basket, etc).  He’ll usually get in just fine, but then he can’t really get out.
  • He’s pointing to everything now. We love when he sees the moon and says “ball!” He always points to Mickey when he sees him in a store or on TV too! He’s not too interested in TV yet, but he’ll watch for a minute or two before destroying the house some more.

13 Months (Luke)

13 months

  • We don’t know Luke’s height or weight but judging from his eating patterns he’s gained some weight. His favorite foods right now: anything and everything.
  • Luke is talking a lot more – ball, more, mama, dada, and now he’ll say “uh oh”. He and Gwynn even get into screaming matches in the backseat…their favorite thing to scream is “Mine!!” He tries to repeat almost anything we say too.
  • Luke will have a temper tantrum if he doesn’t get his way. He’ll bend over and just scream his little head off. We can usually distract him and he gets over it unless it involves food…then we just give in.
  • His sleeping patterns are a bit odd – sometimes he’ll scream bloody murder when we try to put him down and will need a quick car ride to put him to sleep, but most nights he’ll fall asleep right at 7:15 no problem. He sleeps until 5:30 or 6 most mornings. We’ve noticed that he is a very light sleeper.  The second he hears a noise or we turn a light on, he pops right up and screams until someone comes to get him.
  • He loves, loves, loves stuffed animals. His favorite is a stuffed squirrel. He loves to hold it by the tail and give it hugs. He has to be holding that or his dog or lamb lovey to fall asleep.
  • He’s pretty much obsessed with the pacifier now too. He definitely needs it to fall asleep, but he has it all day too. The second he sees food though, he pulls it right out and drops it on the floor.

12 months (Luke)

  • Luke is a year old! We can’t believe it!
  • Stats:
    • Length: 31 inches
    • Weight: 24.3 lbs
    • Head Circumference: 19 inches
  • He is very good at making the touchdown sign…just in time for football!
  • When we are seated on the floor, Luke will walk backwards a few steps to sit on our laps…it’s so sweet.
  • He brings us things all the time.  His favorite thing to do is get into the pantry and bring us cans of soup, syrup, and other things he probably shouldn’t have access to.
  • He also screams “ma!” when he wants more food.
  • Speaking of food, he’s a big fan. I can’t think of anything off hand that he won’t eat. His favorites are fruit, green beans, pizza, cheerios, goldfish.
  • His all time favorite thing to eat is a cookie from Publix. The second we start heading that way he’ll start bouncing up and down and panting really fast.  If they ever run out of cookies I don’t know what we’ll do.
  • Luke’s favorite things to play with are balls…footballs, baseballs, soccer balls, doesn’t matter. He even says “ba” when he sees one!  He even calls grapes and tomatoes balls!
  • He and his sissy usually play well together, but he’s starting to really get mad when she takes something away from him. He’ll slam his hands down and start screaming…she better watch out because one day he’ll retaliate and it won’t be pretty.
  • Luke loves to play in water. When we go to the Y he loves running in the kiddie pool and would probably dive into the big pool if we’d let him.
  • He puts our iPhones and other play phones up to his ear and occasionally will say something that sounds like “hi.” He also will do the same with other toys though (trains, balls, etc).

11 months (Luke)

At 11 months…

  • Luke is running like a madman. No crawling whatsoever. He’s got a few pairs of shoes and gets around in those just fine too. He prefers to go shoeless still.
  • As football season approaches we had to make sure he knew how to put his hands up for a touchdown. He’s just about got it though it looks more like a motion for loss of down (hands behind head instead of straight up).
  • Luke picked up clapping really quickly…he’s great at it! He also imitates when we shake our head.  Our favorite thing to do is ask him if he likes Auburn and he shakes his head “no.” :-)
  • He has a new favorite treat – cat food. No, we don’t let him eat it but if he sees it he will race towards it. It must smell delicious. The cat was outside one day and he went to the pantry and got the container of cat food out…we had no idea he could do that.  It’s amazing what he picks up just from watching his sissy.
  • Luke will put his hands together to pray before we eat. He actually does it without us prompting him. It’s a good habit because sometimes we forget to pray ourselves but he always reminds us.
  • He’s pretty much eating real food at appropriate meal times now.  He gets a bottle in the morning (about 4 oz) and one at night (about 4 oz) and sometimes during the day before a nap.  This makes it so much easier to take him places and he loves to finish Gwynn’s food for her!
  • They tell us at daycare that his best friend is Emma.  Ms. Bonnie said that Luke will follow her everywhere and then she’ll turn around and follow him. She’s only a few months older than him…we’re so glad he has a pal his own age to play with!
  • Luke is such a sweetie.  He loves to be held and is still a mama’s boy, but when he sees his Daddy he makes a beeline for him too!

10 months (Luke)

  • Luke likes to dance when he hears some good music. He bounces up and down and smiles so big!
  • He will use Gwynn’s chair to get onto the couch. Now he knows how to get off safely by getting on his belly and sliding off feet first. Sometimes he’ll want to go over the arm rests but after a fall or two he’s learned that’s not a good idea.
  • Luke has taken 8-10 steps several times and routinely walks between the couch and chair.
  • He has had some minor tantrums. Besides crying when he doesn’t get his way, he’ll raise both arms up and slam them down on his legs (we think he learned that from his big sister).
  • Luke is a terror at restaurants. He wants to grab anything that’s near him and won’t stop trying to wiggle out of his seat. We’ve looked over a few times and he’ll be standing up in the high chair.  So now we have a hand on him at all times. Gwynn was the same way for a while as well, so hopefully this phase will pass quickly with Luke like it did with Gwynn.
  • His hair is coming in reddish. We’re not sure how bright it will be, but he is most definitely going to be a redhead.
  • Luke definitely prefers real food over a bottle or baby food.  It will be VERY easy to wean him off a bottle in 2 months.  He’s already a champ at using a sippy cup too! His favorite foods are crackers, applesauce, yogurt, cheerios, pancakes, muffins, biscuits, and fruit.
  • He’s saying the following words/sounds on and off: “mama,” “dada,” and “mmm.”
  • Luke LOVES dinosaurs.  When we show him a dinosaur or ask him “What does a dinosaur say?” he’ll roar really loudly.  It’s so sweet! Daddy can’t wait to teach him all about dinosaurs!
  • He’s become a pretty good sleeper.  He usually goes down for the night around 7:30 and sometimes wakes up if he loses his pacifier, but that’s rare. He is an early riser though…usually 6 or 6:30 which isn’t fun in the summertime!

9 Months old (Luke)

Luke is doing something new almost every day! We went to the doctor for a nine month checkup and here are his stats:

Length: 28.3 inches
Weight: 22 lbs 9.5 oz
Head Circumference: 18.5 inches

  • He is climbing even more than before. He’ll use Gwynn’s chair to get on the couch and then crawl right off. We have to make sure he’s not by himself in the living room because he can get into a lot of trouble with the couch.
  • He can stand for 6-8 seconds at a time. He hasn’t taken any steps yet, but that’s coming any day now.
  • Luke does not like taking a bottle anymore. He’ll take it at night, but during the day he’ll really have to be starving to want a bottle. If it isn’t big people food he doesn’t want it. He’ll eat anything we give him.
  • His mouth is officially off limits to anyone’s prying fingers. He’s got 4 teeth – 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom.
  • He’s still wearing size 4 diapers and size 12-18M clothes. However, most of the time at home he just wears a diaper (it’s really hard to get him dressed!).
  • Luke is still only saying “da-da”, but he repeats a lot of sounds that we make (his favorite sounds are kissy noises and grunts).
  • He can wave now!! It’s so sweet because he usually waves backwards (towards himself).
  • We went out to eat and realized that Luke is now able to drink from a straw.  This will make things so much easier!
  • He loves to play with anything his sissy is playing with…and doesn’t quite understand not to bother her.  He’ll learn quickly though, when he gets tired of getting pushed down.
  • His favorite thing to play with is balls!  He loves to roll the ball to us and even gets on his knees and tries to throw it!
  • Sleeping is still not on Luke’s list of priorities.  He’ll take 2 short naps each day and usually go to bed between 7:30 and 8.  He typically gets up at least once, but we’ve gotten him in the routine of going back to sleep without a bottle. He typically doesn’t sleep past 6 each morning.
  • He is still the sweetest, happiest baby.  He loves to be held and sleep on Daddy’s chest.  We love our big boy!

8 months old (Luke)

Luke is 8 months old already!!

  • He is the sweetest, happiest baby. He loves to smile and laugh. One of his favorite things to do is sit on the floor while mommy or daddy goes behind the couch and scares him...he laughs so hard! He also loves standing on the couch (with mommy or daddy) while someone plays peek-a-boo. He will try so hard to look over the edge of the couch!
  • Another one of his favorite things is playing outside. He is so happy when he's outside taking a walk in the stroller, swinging, playing in the grass, or just sitting and watching his sister run around.
  • He loves to blow raspberries on Mommy’s shoulder when she’s holding him. His favorite time to do this? During the quiet times in church!
  • Luke climbs on everything. If we're not right next to him while he's playing he'll eventually climb on something he's not supposed to (the stairs, couch, into the fireplace, etc). Mrs. Ouida at daycare said she's never had a baby climb as much as Luke...and she's kept a lot of babies! He actually made it all the way up the stairs (with daddy behind him).
  • We are definitely going to have to baby proof the house more than we did for Gwynn.  We have plug covers, a gate, and a lock on the cleaning supplies, but that’s about it.  Luke is much more destructive and active than his sister ever was, so we’ll be purchasing some more baby proofing items soon and putting all breakables out of Luke’s reach.
  • Luke has let go of the couch and stood by himself 2 or 3 times for a few seconds. We know he's trying to walk so he can keep up with his sister!
  • It’s almost impossible to strap Luke into anything (especially the car seat).  Once he’s in, he’s ok…but getting him there is very difficult. It’s also getting very hard to change his diaper.  He flips around and crawls away the second the old diaper comes off!
  • He is saying his first word...da-da!! If we say it to him he repeats it about 90% of the time.
  • Luke still isn't sleeping through the night...he'd much prefer to eat rather than sleep (it's usually around 3 am too). We're hoping we can break him of this habit in the summer (when sleep isn't that important to us since we won't have to work).
  • He's taking 4-8 oz of formula with each bottle (usually 4 oz each morning). He typically eats around 3 AM, 6 AM, 10 AM, 2 PM, 5 PM, and a late bottle that we give him right before we go to bed. He's also eating baby food at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. He eats all kinds of baby food and his favorite "real foods" are Cheerios, bananas, applesauce, bread, crackers, and veggie sticks (not real vegetables...they're sold with the potato chips).
  • Luke is definitely a mama's boy! He's ok with mommy, Grandma, and Grammy holding him, but he has a fit when any other woman takes him. He's usually fine when men hold him, but he definitely prefers mommy over anyone! He loves daddy too, he’ll go crazy when he sees him at daycare.

7 months (Luke)

This was a BIG month for Luke.  He can do so many new things!

  • He is sitting up unassisted and can get up and sit on his own from any position.
  • He is crawling…not army crawling or scooting, but really crawling.  He is fast too!
  • He can pull up to stand on anything (couch, crib, mommy and daddy, etc).  He loves to stand up!
  • Luke even took a few steps while holding onto the couch.  We can’t believe all of this is happening so soon!  He’s not acting like a baby anymore…he’s such a big boy.
  • He doesn’t really like drinking formula anymore.  He’d much prefer to eat baby food (or real food for that matter).  We pretty much have to force him to take a bottle, just so he gets the nutrients he needs.
  • He still only has the two bottom teeth.
  • He’s wearing 9-12 month clothes and has even been able to wear some 12-18 month things. He’s wearing size 4 diapers like his sister.
  • He sleeps in his crib until about 4 usually.  He wakes up hungry, but will make it until 6ish if daddy puts him on his chest.
  • Luke loves playing with all of Gwynn’s toys. Gwynn doesn’t like this at all. His favorite thing to do is crawl over and knock down her blocks.  She gets so mad!
  • Mrs. Ouida said he doesn’t sleep much at daycare at all…he likes to be in the middle of all the action. In fact, he sleeps less than Gwynn does. She also told us that he “eats like a horse.” Looks like we have another good eater!

Sunday, March 10, 2013

6 months (Luke)

  • 6 month stats…
    • Length: 27 inches
    • Weight: 19 lbs 4 oz
    • Head Circumference: 17 5/8 inches
  • Luke is loving food now!  At 5 months, he wasn’t too impressed, but now he can’t get enough.  They will feed him baby food at daycare for lunch and we usually give him 2 servings of baby food for dinner (we think he could eat more, but we don’t want him getting sick!). On the weekends we’ll give him something easy for breakfast too, but when we’re pressed for time during the week it’s just a bottle. He’s usually not that hungry in the mornings anyway. His favorite food is without a doubt…PUFFS!
  • He is definitely mobile now too. He can roll anywhere he wants to go and will scoot backwards when he’s trying to crawl.  He gets up on his knees and rocks back and forth really fast…we think he’ll be crawling any day now.
  • He is sitting up pretty well, but still gets a little off balance at times and falls over.
  • Luke is such a ham.  He loves to smile.  We had Easter pictures taken and the photographer couldn’t believe how easy it was to get him to smile.
  • He still only has his 2 bottom teeth. Lots of low grade fevers and drooling, so we think tooth #3 will make an appearance soon.
  • He’s sleeping in his crib full time now and since we started feeding him real (baby) food he’s been sleeping a lot longer.  We’ve even made it all night a few times…woo hoo!
  • Luke loves his big sissy. When he sees Gwynn his face lights up.  He loves to roll around on the floor with her and pull her hair.  He also likes to steal her toys which she isn’t too happy about.
  • It’s very hard for Mommy to wear necklaces because Luke will get a death grip on it and pull as hard as he can. He even broke one, but thankfully Pop was able to fix it!
  • We have been so blessed with another sweet, sweet baby.  We can’t believe he is 6 months old already.  We were so nervous about Gwynn and Luke being so close in age, but he’s made it so easy because he’s so laid back.  I can’t wait to see what the next few months have in store as he starts getting more mobile!  Should be fun!!

Sunday, February 10, 2013

5 months (Luke)

5 months old already…so hard to believe!!

  • We took Luke to the doctor on January 21st for his 4 month check-up.  He did great with all of his vaccinations.  He didn’t even mind the shots…he just didn’t like the nurse holding his legs down. He was 26.2 inches long (85th percentile) and weighed 17 pounds 7.5 ounces (90th percentile)…such a BIG BOY!
  • He is finally sleeping in his crib at night. It was surprisingly easy to transition him from the swing.  He likes having the sleep sheep on, as well as the aquarium.  He also wants his pacifier and to hold on to something (usually his blue dog lovey). We’ll put him to sleep on his back, but he typically rolls over on his stomach to sleep.
  • Speaking of rolling over, he’s rolling all over the place. We put him on a blanket on the floor and before we know it he’s across the room! He’s even gotten up on his knees a few times, so he’ll be crawling in a few months for sure.
  • We usually give him a bottle around 5:30 pm and then put him in his crib around 6:30.  He’ll sleep until about 10 pm and we’ll give him another bottle. After that last bottle, he’ll typically sleep until around 4 or 4:30 am…hopefully we’ll get him sleeping until 6 am soon!
  • We’ve tried introducing food (cereal, oatmeal, sweet potatoes, pears), but he is not interested.  He makes the worst face!  We’ll keep working on it though. He’s taking 5 bottles a day (6-8 oz in each bottle).
  • He’s still a little wobbly when trying to sit up, but he definitely prefers sitting up to lying flat.
  • Luke has 2 bottom teeth!  We can’t believe he got teeth so early.  It’s definitely been harder on him than it ever was for Gwynn.  He loves chewing on teethers and our fingers and Orajel is our best friend!
  • He started laughing a few days before he turned 5 months old.  Daddy is the best at getting him to laugh!

4 months (Luke)

At four months…

  • Luke is still a big boy, but he’s not as chubby as he used to be. All the weight seems to have moved to his cheeks.
  • He wears 9 month clothes and some of those won’t fit for much longer.
  • Luke is still in his swing at night, but we’ve tried him in the crib a few times. He’s starting to show signs of disliking the swing. If he’s wide awake he doesn’t like to be in it. He wants to be on the floor with Gwynn.  I know she can’t wait until he’ll be able to play with her!
  • He generally sleeps from 8pm to 6am. A few nights he’ll be hungry during the night, but that’s not the norm anymore.
  • Luke is able to stay sitting up for a moment or two before falling over. He should be able to sit up indefinitely by 5 months we think.
  • He loves holding onto something when he’s falling asleep (especially his dog blankie).  This keeps him from pulling his pacifier out which he loves to do now!
  • He grabs everything in sight.  It’s so fun to play with toys with him because he’s becoming really interested in them.
  • Luke has used the bouncer (exersaucer) quite a few times and seems to enjoy it.  It’s so nice to have Gwynn around to press the music button for him. He’s pressed it a few times himself though!
  • He’s got a big appetite. 8 ounces for daycare and 6-8 at home. Right now, his schedule to eat is 6 am, 10 am, 2 pm, between 4-6 pm, and then another bottle right before we go to bed (between 9-10 pm).
  • No food yet, but we’ll probably start him on oatmeal, rice cereal, etc. once we go to the doctor for his next check up.

3 Months (Luke)

Luke is 3 months old. Somehow he seems older. We can’t even remember what it was like just to have one kid.

At three months …

  • Luke keeps growing. We’re not sure how big he is, but he’s in mostly 6 month outfits now.
  • He’s still in his swing. We swear by 4 months he’ll be in his crib.
  • Luke is great about sleeping, he’ll go 8-10 hours almost every night. Sometimes he’ll move around a bit around 4 or 5am, but he’ll sleep on daddy’s chest when that happens to make it until we’re ready to get up.
  • We take  two bottles to daycare, but Luke needs a bottle as soon as we get home. We’ll do 6 or 7 ounces for daycare and usually 6 ounces at home.
  • He is quite the talker.
  • We had a bit of a scare with a fever. One night Luke was  cranky (which is unusual) and it turned out he had a 102 fever. We went to the ER at Children’s Hospital at 12:30am and sat around for hours before being told they couldn’t do anything to and just go home and keep an eye on him. Not a fun night. We got back home at 8:00am.
  • Luke rolled over right before he turned 3 months. Like Gwynn he went from stomach to belly first.
  • We’ve moved to the tub for bathtime instead of the sink. He really enjoys it.
  • Luke isn’t as big into his pacifier as Gwynn was. If he doesn’t have one he’ll just as soon suck on his fingers. It’s nice not to have to worry about constantly putting in a pacifier.

2 Months (Luke)

Luke is 2 months old. He’ll be driving before we know it.

At two months…

  • Luke is a ginormous baby. At his 2 month check-up he was 24 1/2 inches long and 14.3lbs. He was heavier than Gwynn was at 4 months. The doctor said he’s just a big baby and not necessarily fat. Daddy likes to call him fat which his grandmothers do not appreciate. He is in size 2 diapers and fits in 3-6 month clothes.
  • He is still sleeping in the swing. No crib yet. Unlike Gwynn, he has been in the swing from day one. We keep saying we’ll try the crib for naps, but it hasn’t happened yet. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
  • Luke has slept 8 hours straight many times. In fact, it’s the norm. However, he usually eats at about 7 or so and goes until 3-3:30am, so it’s not ideal.
  • During the day Luke eats every 3 or 4 hours. We’ve had to make 3 bottles for daycare each day because he’s got quite an appetite.
  • Luke is smiling! When we talk to him he’ll get the biggest grin on his face…so sweet!
  • He can follow things with his eyes quite well. He’ll watch mommy or daddy if they walk out of the room and he’s gotten to where he’ll sometimes get upset if he thinks he’s alone.
  • He’s not a fan of tummy time at all. He’ll tolerate it for about 2 or 3 minutes then he gets mad and wants to be turned over.  He still loves lying flat on his back though.  We’re not sure how this lack of tummy time will affect when he rolls over…I guess we’ll find out soon enough!

1 month (Luke)

Luke is a month old already. Time seems to not only fly, but to accelerate every day too.

At one month…

  • Luke isn’t sleeping in his crib yet. He sleeps in the swing or on Mommy or Daddy’s chest. We haven’t tried the pack ‘n play or the bassinet. He will occasionally take naps in his crib or the bassinet while Mommy is getting things done upstairs.
  • Mommy and Daddy take turns sleeping on the couch near the swing, that way at least one of us will get some sleep. Daddy takes the first shift and gets Mommy after Luke gets up after his late evening bottle. Sometimes it’s 3:30am, but a few times Luke has gone until 6:00am.
  • Luke can eat. He is quite the little piggy. We don’t have a strict feeding schedule at all because sometimes he’ll go 3 hours between bottles (and sometimes a little less) and sometimes he’ll go 6-7 hours between bottles. He typically takes 6 ounces for each bottle, but sometimes he’ll take another 2 ounces within an hour of that. Overall he’s eating much more than Gwynn did at this age.
  • Luke is in size 1 diapers and 3-6 month clothes. Newborn diapers lasted about 72 hours and his newborn clothes fit for just a few weeks.
  • Luke can move his head back and forth while on his stomach and track objects in front of him very well.
  • We could use any bottle with Gwynn, but Luke is a little more picky. We switched to Avent bottles because he was very gassy for a few days…this seemed to help a lot.
  • He LOVES to be in his car seat and to ride in the car or take a walk in the stroller.  If he’s really fussy sometimes we’ll put him in the stroller and go for a walk and it calms him down.
  • He is very tolerant of his big sister.  He doesn’t seem bothered at all when she’s putting bows in his hair, shoving the pacifier in his mouth, or covering him with a blanket.  I know Gwynn can’t wait until he’s old enough to play with her!
