Luke’s 1st Birthday Party

Luke had his first birthday party on Sunday. It was fun but very tiring!

Gwynn sees that Grandma came by to help get everything ready.

Grandpa (“Paw”) and Nancy came early too because they had a long drive down to Florida ahead of them.

Gwynn fell asleep before everyone started arriving and was surprised to see guests in the house when she awoke.

One of Luke’s new toys is a hammer and blocks. Let’s hope he uses the blocks with the hammer and not Gwynn’s head.

The Chicken Coop was a egg hunt.

The Duck Pond was… a duck pond.

Here the kids went through the corn to find toys.

This is what they feed chickens for KFC to get them nice and fat. I think it’s the M&M’s.

The smash cake. Or rather, the gently touch and eat cake.

Daddy learning why the A/C wasn’t working upstairs. It got fixed thanks to Uncle Jeremy.

Luke preferred grabbing the corn to grabbing the toys.

Everyone having fun.

Pigsty time. The kids put balloons with pig faces drawn on them into the pigsty as quickly as possible.

Luke excitedly opening up a present. He was disappointed that the present wasn’t edible.

Gwynn trying to steal some attention away from Luke. She got these cool glasses and her own balloon from Aunt Sherry.

Either Luke was really tired or he was playing Peek-A-Boo.

Trying to get Luke to smash his cake. He wouldn’t.

With some help from his sister and cousins the cake was quickly demolished.

Roll Tide!

Gwynn and Luke spent the weekend at Grandma and Pop’s while Mommy and Daddy went to Atlanta for the Bama game against Va Tech. They had a ball.

Luke had fun turning this lamp on and off over and over and over again.

Luke also enjoyed eating. That’s his favorite.

11 months (Luke)

At 11 months…

  • Luke is running like a madman. No crawling whatsoever. He’s got a few pairs of shoes and gets around in those just fine too. He prefers to go shoeless still.
  • As football season approaches we had to make sure he knew how to put his hands up for a touchdown. He’s just about got it though it looks more like a motion for loss of down (hands behind head instead of straight up).
  • Luke picked up clapping really quickly…he’s great at it! He also imitates when we shake our head.  Our favorite thing to do is ask him if he likes Auburn and he shakes his head “no.” :-)
  • He has a new favorite treat – cat food. No, we don’t let him eat it but if he sees it he will race towards it. It must smell delicious. The cat was outside one day and he went to the pantry and got the container of cat food out…we had no idea he could do that.  It’s amazing what he picks up just from watching his sissy.
  • Luke will put his hands together to pray before we eat. He actually does it without us prompting him. It’s a good habit because sometimes we forget to pray ourselves but he always reminds us.
  • He’s pretty much eating real food at appropriate meal times now.  He gets a bottle in the morning (about 4 oz) and one at night (about 4 oz) and sometimes during the day before a nap.  This makes it so much easier to take him places and he loves to finish Gwynn’s food for her!
  • They tell us at daycare that his best friend is Emma.  Ms. Bonnie said that Luke will follow her everywhere and then she’ll turn around and follow him. She’s only a few months older than him…we’re so glad he has a pal his own age to play with!
  • Luke is such a sweetie.  He loves to be held and is still a mama’s boy, but when he sees his Daddy he makes a beeline for him too!
